what gave you the idea for this project?
In field service a few years ago, I was working with an older brother in his early 80’s. We passed a hedge of purple morning glories which were the most intense color of purple… it was stunning! I said “Al, look at the color of these flowers!” He looked at them and looked back at me and said, in childlike wonder…”WHO is Jehovah?”
I was astounded at his response. I wondered “what other experiences would my brothers and sisters say was so incredible about Jehovah that THEY would respond …”WHO is Jehovah?” with childlike wonder.
who contributed to the lyrics?
So I started asking people in my congregation and others, taking note of their responses. I wrote them down as they had said them, and entered them line by line in a WORD document. Then I moved each response around to be in the same verses as similar thoughts. Finally I polished the lyrics to be what they are today.
this is a very easy song to play; each verse and chorus is the exact same. was that intentional?
Musically I wanted it to be a simple song because the lyrics were so compelling. Although the chords and progression are simple, it allows plenty of latitude for arrangement and individual expression by the singers and the musicians. By design it is allowed to be a different song every time someone different plays or sings it.
